Water interacts with light in constantly changing ways, absorbing, reflecting, bending and refracting it. “Dorte Mandrup: Light & Water” explores these phenomena through the Danish architect’s work, looking at how light and water shape our experience of space, material and landscape. In the Danish context, water is deeply embedded in collective identity: familiar and ever-present, it is both a fundamental life source and a continuous source of inspiration. This embossed, linen-bound volume explores a particular intimacy with water, rooted in the landscape and everyday life.
A poetic sequence of new photographs by Adam Mørk presents Mandrup’s architecture in rain, mist, snow, meltwater and the shifting Nordic light. Across projects including the Wadden Sea Centre, Ilulissat Icefjord Centre and Prismen, the images reveal an architecture shaped by its surroundings and the passage of time. Mandrup’s reflections are accompanied by literary, anthropological, ornithological and cultural perspectives, offering a layered reading of architecture, landscape and the forces that connect them.
