Christoph Grill Short Stalks at Distant Shores

Christoph Grill (born 1965 in Austria) documents the signs of decay in the successor states of the Soviet Union and other regions in the former East Bloc. His photographs of Albania, Slovakia, Poland, Hungary, Ukraine, Belarus, Russia, Lithuania, Latvia, Estonia, Armenia, Nagorno-Karabakh, Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, and Tajikistan capture unsentimental portraits of everyday life: children playing amid the ruins of communist utopias, triumphal ararches in the middle of nowhere, grass growing in the cracks of military parade grounds.
