The importance of the house is fundamental to the human being and its contribution highly meaningful to the cultural shaping of societies. Which spatial concepts does today‘s architecture feel committed to? Tony Fretton, London architect, relates his different projects in England, the Netherlands and Denmark. Each project exemplifies how sensitively he considers the characteristics of the particular place in his designing process. The buildings of Peter Zumthor, Pritzker laureate 2009, frequently move in between the realms of architecture and sculpture. The eight projects presented in his lecture allude his respect for the material and his great attention to detail. Finally, in the article of Roger Diener, main focus is given to the urban experience, expressed in the myriad forms of action. It is particularly important to him, to recognise the city as a collective yet at the same time separated identity, by trying to understand its special shape in a specific place and responding to it with his own form of architecture.
