C3 355 - Funeral : Between Nature and Artefact

This instalment brings three main themes to the fore: "Funeral, between Nature and Artefact", "Gateway to the Community" and "Artificially High". In the first, the reconciliation between the natural phenomenon of death and the built environment is examined, with the Welkenraedt Funeral Centre by Denthier Architecture and Andrea Dragoni’s Gubbio Cemetery Extension among the examples. New community projects in Lisbon, Washington DC and Brooklyn, New York, demonstrate the benefits of these focal points for cultural heritage in the second theme. The final theme shows five exceptional homes that attempt to rise above the surroundings, from rocky cliffs to sloping woods.
