The research carried out at RMIT University, under the supervision of the teaching teams in the context of the Pre-Major + Major Project final year structure in design have all been generally informed by analytical investigations and consequent design speculations regarding Melbourne's suburban territory. The students were encouraged to analyse the existing usual ways of inhabiting the suburban territory and to explore possible alternative types and modes of inhabitation, considering some cultural, social and economical transformations in the late and current history of Melbourne's environment as influential conditions in the design of different formal/functional configurations and spatial subdivisions, both at an architectural and urban scale
