Critical appraisal of Berlin's Domaquaree development and it's relationship to the city historic core. The new DomAquarée building in Berlin-Mitte marks the culmination of the revitalization of one of Berlin’s most prominent yet sensitive urban spaces. It is being constructed in the Heiliggeistviertel neighborhood. Located north of the Marx-Engels-Forum, it lies in the immediate vicinity of Berlin Cathedral, Museum Island, and Hackescher Markt. To the southwest, it borders Schlossplatz with the Palace of the Republic. Until 2001, the legendary Palast Hotel stood on the site of the DomAquarée. The architects nps tchoban voss designed the DomAquarée as an ensemble of four building blocks. The urban form ties in with the visible and layered, organically grown structures of the neighborhood, thereby connecting the site with its surroundings. The new alleys, squares, and the Spree promenade are designed as urban gathering spaces. The individual buildings house a hotel, apartments, and offices.
