Heliopolis 21—founded by Alessandro Melis (curator of the Italian Pavilion at the 17th International Architecture Exhibition at the Venice Biennale) and Gian Luigi Melis—is a design studio known internationally for its high rate of technological innovation and for the climatic-environmental attention of its interventions.
Among the most important projects are the Exhibition Center and the New Sports Hall in Riva del Garda (Trento), the Stella Maris Foundation Children and Adolescents Neuropsychiatry Hospital in Pisa, the new educational centre of the University of Pisa: SR1938 Memory Pole and the multipurpose building of Fonte Mazzola in Peccioli (Pisa), while numerous awards have been obtained and competitions won in Italy and abroad.
