Takashi Miyagawa’s drawings are thick with curlicues, squiggles, zigzags, whorls, and broad strokes. Often bordering on writing in script, or forming characters akin to an ancient calligraphy, the relatively small-scale works can be expansive, with denser shapes emerging in patterns amidst the seeming chaos of scribbles and marks. Some are light and open, others are seething and dark. In all, more than 130 drawings are included here, with a detailed index of the dimensions of each. Surprisingly, many of these intricate works are no larger than a standard A4 size sheet of paper.
