One of France's most revered modernist architects, Claude Parent here uses his imagination to draw the cities of the future. He lets his artistic imagination flow to create his utopian visions and anti-conformist universe. Parent's 1960s theory of the 'function oblique' stated that building should be based upon slopes, ramps and angles, wall-free where possible; and that the oblique city can be created, emulating a towering concrete wave. Illustrating these theories, and gathered mostly from private collections, the complex drawings of 'Demain, la Terre...' reveal the strength of Parent's draughtsmanship, as well as the practical vigour with which he has created some of France's iconic modern buildings.
