The book presents a range of Arabic and Arabic-inspired typefaces with examples of their application. In addition, selected design and graffiti works provide insights into the illustrative use of text. This results in a wide variety of links to current street art and free poster design. Arabesque 2 shows graphic designs, logos, editorial designs and illustrations by young designers and activists from Arab countries and Persia. Most of the designs come from Egypt, Iran, Saudi Arabia, Jordan, Lebanon and Dubai. But regardless of the designers' location and origin, all the examples impressively combine modern design with the traditional Arabic canon of forms based on characters. The foreword is by John Martin, co-founder of Art Dubai. Supplementary texts and interviews describe the working environment of the designers. The two editors of Arabesque 2, Ben Wittner and Sascha Thoma, round off the book with four type fonts, which are enclosed on a CD-ROM.
