The generation born since 1986, the year Spain joined the European Union, marks a turning point in Spanish architecture. They started architecture school during years of plenty, only to soon find themselves challenged by the sombre reality of recession. Now, these young architects are dealing with a pandemic that has eroded all hope of stability. For ‘Ecosistemas.zip’, four curators examined the work processes of architects under 35 years old to define the professional ecosystem in which they operate. A selection from among the 300 practices in the exhibition’s database features in this issue, along with special projects that illustrate the country’s young architectural scene.
