Palazzo Montecitorio - The Art Nouveau Building is the second of the two volumes devoted to the Palace of Montecitorio focuses on its recent history, closely connected with parliamentary life. In the design of the interiors, Ernesto Basile deploys his taste more as a designer than as an architect, achieving an overall result in which the solemnity of the rooms goes well with the airiness of the decorations and details. Evidence of this are the committee rooms, colored marble floors, ceilings and furnishings that Basile took care of in detail, according to the taste of the time. Other artists, leading exponents of the celebratory taste of the time, also collaborated with Basile: Leonardo Bistolfi and Domenico Trentacoste, authors of the marble groups and the rear facade, and Aristide Sartorio, author of the large pictorial frieze dedicated to the history of the 'Italian People' that surrounds the hall at the top, just below the airy Art Nouveau stained-glass velarium by Giovanni Beltrami.
