Mobility shapes society, thus shaping our relationships and social structures. Understanding its significance and potential requires recognizing it as an interdisciplinary entanglement of relation- ships. This book explores mobility from its different angles, highlighting the ways in which it defines society on micro and macro levels. These angles are presented in a broad series of compelling contributions – from visual to scientific essays – by experts in various fields. The design of the book enables the reader to discover practical and visionary links as well as to explore unseen relationships between mobilities and aspects of our evolving society. To achieve this, the editors reflect on a new way of making sense of society by looking at the world through “mobility lenses,” expanding current mental and physical societal confines. This design approach to societal investigation invites the reader to go on a surprising journey through the flows of goods, people, materials, ideas and assets, and the interaction between them. It strips the world naked of its biases and unmovable qualities, and creatively explores the softer movements that shape society at ecological, global and human levels.
