Rome in the World (Pre-order)

How does Rome compare to other world cities? Is it larger or smaller, more cohesive or more fragmented than Paris, London, or Istanbul? And how does its ageing population shape daily life, especially when set against the rapid growth and youthful demographics of cities like Cairo, Lagos, or Mumbai? A contradictory and complex urban ecosystem - and a historical–architectural unicum - Rome remains a global point of reference. Yet its relationship to other rapidly changing cities is still underexplored. This exhibition catalogue, curated by Ricky Burdett and Izabela Anna Moren, presents the research behind Rome in the World through two complementary lenses: a clear-eyed analysis of Rome’s urban form and the cultural, subjective power it holds in global imagination. Featuring texts by Keti Lelo, Paola Viganò, and Jack Self, along with infographics, thematic maps, and a new photographic series by Marina Caneve, the book captures Rome’s evolving place on the world stage.
